Taupo will host around 6000 competitors and 8000 supporters for the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge on 30th November 2019. This iconic event aims to be “an event that offers something for everyone and inspires people to push their personal limits and challenge themselves”. Acknowledged as NZ’s largest cycling occasion, this year it will celebrate its 43rd year.

There are a wide range of options on offer for riders including the Criterium events (Friday night) and the multi-lap Enduro events,  the iconic 160km Bike Barn Round The Lake, the 75km Half the Lake or the shorter 40km Quarter Lake, also the 80km, 60km and 30km BDO Huka Mountain Bike categories and for families there are the 5km Kids Heart Ride and the 16km Lakesider.

The event will keep visitors entertained at the same time. Food and a kids’ play area are available at the Event Village. DJ, MC and live musicians will be on the main stage from 12pm to 5pm on Saturday, followed by a Powhiri at 5:15pm.

Taupo has a lot to offer our visitors. Water activities should be on the top of the list as we have the largest lake in the southern hemisphere. Lake Cruises, White Water Rafting, Jet Boating, Bungy Jumping, Kayaking as well as Scenic Flights just to name a few. Or simply visit the beautiful Huka falls, one of NZ’s most popular natural attractions.

The hot pools at Taupo DeBretts could be the perfect destination to finish a busy day of exploring Taupo. The natural mineral water with relaxing lush surroundings will totally revive your body and mind.

We look forward to seeing you in Taupo and hope you have a great time here.
