Graffiato: Taupo Street Art Festival 2018

Graffiato: Taupo Street Art Festival 2018
Saturday, 20 October 2018 09:00AM to Monday, 22 October 2018 05:00PM

The Graffiato: Taupo Street Art Festival brings together some of the world’s best street artists over Labour weekend every year to transform the town’s walls.

The first street art festival of its kind in New Zealand, Graffiato captures the diversity of mural painting practice in New Zealand, and what’s new and relevant in global urban culture.

Graffiato’s ever-expanding portfolio of over 80 murals brings transformation, wonder and vibrancy to the urban laneways and streets they inhabit. Even locals continue to find surprises hidden away down these charming back alleys.

While festivals of this nature now feature around the country, the 120 or so pieces created over the years in Taupo, as part of Graffiato, represents the widest ranging and most comprehensive survey of New Zealand artists working in this field.

Ross Liew, curator of Graffiato: Taupo Street Art Festival, says "No other city has such a rich collection of walls where you can see the breadth of talent and vision that resides within our country."

Grab a coffee, wander off the main streets into the many hidden laneways, and discover this rich collection of works for yourself – but keep your eyes up as there are many more surprises around each corner!
