Beijing Young Skiing Lovers Received True NZ Experience

Taupo DeBretts Spa Resort has accommodated the Beijing Ski Association Youth Camp for the last week. Youth Camp members enjoyed their unique New Zealand holiday park experience and had a wonderful time exploring the Taupo region.

Beijing has been granted the 2022 Winter Olympics. However, the profile of snow sports is still quite new in China. Part of the plan to popularize snow sports among Beijing residents, the Beijing Ski Association partnered with Tourism New Zealand in 2017, organizing the young generation to receive professional ski training annually in New Zealand.

According to Tourism New Zealand, “in anticipation of the Beijing Winter Olympics just five years away, China is stepping up its efforts to boost the profile of snow sports and grow its reserves of professional skiers. The Beijing Ski Association is tasked with getting 8 million Chinese nationals skiing by the 2022 Winter Olympics and has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Winter Games New Zealand Trust to provide counter-season training for China’s snow sports teams ahead of the Games.”

This is the second year the Beijing Ski Association Youth Camp, has chosen Taupo as their base. The youth Camp members received ski training at Whakapapa Ski Field as well as a New Zealand high school experience at Tauhara College. The group were also able to enjoy a hot soak every night at Taupo Debretts Hot Spring which had been “different and unforgettable” for them.

We look forward to seeing them come back again next year.
