A wide range of free, fun activities on offer makes Great Lake Taupo the perfect place for a holiday! 

Huka Honey Hive

Located just 5 minutes north of Taupo on SH1 is a honey of a place that will be seen “Sweet As” by the entire family.  Kids of all ages will enjoy watching the bees hard at work in their glass viewing hives and in the learning centre, you’ll learn how and why the queen rules. Sample a myriad of yummy New Zealand made honey products including raw honey, jams, syrup, mead and loads of skincare and wellness products.  Try the homemade honey ice cream and fudge at their café. The Honey Hive also carries a wide range of New Zealand art and handcraft products at reasonable prices.

Riverside Market

Head down to the Riverside Markets, held every Saturday's from 10am until 1pm.

Here you'll find a fabulous variety of stalls from fresh produce, handmade crafts & plants to name a few.

Don't worry about packing lunch, theres plenty of tasty food stalls that cater to your tastebuds, with a big emphasis on healthy & organic morsels.

If you feel like a coffee fix or a cold drink, you'll discover a couple of beverage carts to quench your thirst.

Opepe Historic Reserve

Take an enchanting walking through native flora and fauna. Located only 15 kms from Lake Taupo in the direction of Hawkes Bay on State-Highway 5.

Opepe Reserve makes the ideal location for birdwatching as many native species to New Zealand inhabit the area. Stand next to a variety of mighty native trees at dominate the ever-green reserve.

Two tracks are available:

Loop Track - This takes about one hour and takes you around a loop of native trees and plaques with scientific descriptions
