BDO Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge

From its humble beginnings in 1977 with just 26 participants, the BDO Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge has grown into NZ’s premier and largest cycling event, with around 6,000 riders from across New Zealand and over 20 countries across the globe taking part each year!

Held on the last Saturday of every November around the pristine and picturesque Lake Taupo, the event will this year celebrate its 43rd anniversary on Saturday 30 November 2019.

With a vision of creating inspiring event experiences for everyone, our purpose is to provide cyclists, as well as anyone interested in physical activity, the flexibility to choose a ride distance which best suits their cycling ability and aspiration, providing options to ride either as a team, a group, a family or as an individual.

Accompanying our already popular road and mountain-bike categories, is the 40km Quarter Lake on road event option (taking in the final 40km of the course), complementing the iconic 160km Round The Lake and the 80km Half The Lake category.

Part of the BDO Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge, the Huka Mountain Bike has four event categories, the 85km Huka Challenge, 60km Huka Steamer, 30km Huka Teaser and the Huka XL race for licensed riders.

With incentives for groups and families as well, we want everyone to join the ride and celebrate our 43rd anniversary with us.
